Contrafact is a free tool for sketching chord progressions and beats. It has no accounts, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking. This page explains the small amount of data the app does handle.
The project you're working on (your progressions, arrangement, beats and settings) is saved automatically in your browser's local storage, along with your chosen theme and which tutorials you've completed. This stays on your device. It is not uploaded anywhere, and you can clear it any time through your browser, or by clearing the project in the app.
If you use the in-app Feedback button, your message is stored on the server so the developer can read it. We store a one way hash of your IP address, used only to limit spam. We never keep your raw IP, and no name, email or other identifying details unless you type them into the message.
When you create a share link, the song you're sharing is stored on the server under a short code so the link works for whoever you send it to. Anyone with the link can open that song. Don't put anything private in a song you share. (Links can be removed on request, just see Contact.)
Like almost all websites, the server keeps standard access logs to keep the service running and to count visitors. IP addresses in these logs are anonymised, and they're only ever viewed as aggregate totals (e.g. how many visits per day, which pages, rough referrers). There is no per-person profiling and no advertising cookies.
Contrafact itself sets no cookies. It uses local storage (above) for your own convenience, not for tracking.
The optional Ko-fi tip button is loaded from Ko-fi. If you choose to use it, any payment and the data involved are handled by Ko-fi under their privacy policy. It does not run unless you interact with it.
Contrafact is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Questions, or want something removed? Use the Feedback button in the app and say so, and it reaches the developer directly.
